The Routed Systems Designer Info Exchange is your independent 'home from home' for all your Routed System Designer Diagramming needs.

To give it its full name Pro/ENGINEER Routed Systems Designer is the multi-discipline diagramming solution from PTC. Routed Systems Designer has core diagramming capabilities that enable it to be used to create diagrams for a variety of purposes. The software specifically caters for 4 main diagram types ensuring optimum functionality in the areas of:-

  • Block Diagrams,
  • Electrical Schematic Diagrams,
  • Wiring Diagrams
  • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (PIDs)

Creation of other diagram types is possible but only core functionality can be used to make them.

So why this site?

RSD is a comprehensive diagramming solution now... the product is at rev5 (November 2004)... However both the RSD user base and the RSD software capabilities are still growing... and if you are new to the product... there is always that vacuum of knowledge between the official sales spiel.. and how it is working for YOU in practice out there in the real world.

So this site is all about YOU, because at the heart of it lies the FORUM that enables YOU to talk to/publish to/learn from the experience of fellow RSD users. Please take time to register and contribute. The more active the RSD community is... the better it must be for our chosen tool for diagram creation.

Remember.... If you don't ask.... You (generally) don't get!!!

Gratifyingly Jim Barrett Smith (Routed Systems Designer Product Line Manager from PTC) and key members of the Software Design Team are already reviewing (and answering) postings in the Forum... What is more Jim and his colleagues are actively joining the discussions so (despite our non official status) you can open up a discourse with PTC and hopefully feedback and influence the RSD Design Process for Rev 6 and beyond.

Not just for the new user...

Take a fresh look at the Forum... I hope you can all see that we are focusing on getting the most out of RSD with discussion threads based on specific tasks/technologies, the individual diagram types etc.

If you haven't browsed for a while there is a wealth of knowledge now on the site... use the search>>> facility or for the LATEST NEWS scroll to the bottom of the page and choose ten most recent posts>>>

More than that however we would like to encourage discussion about diagramming in general, best practice, maybe a glossary of terms... The upload/download is live... with an area where users can share their catalogs, data tables, report formats, training notes, java customisations etc. etc.

So who are you Mr Webmaster? What is RSD to you?

My name is Mike Sanders, I used to work for PTC. I was part of the original 'Tiger Team' within PTC that formulated the original concept of a new Routed System Schematic Package. After a period away from the product I actively helped design rev 2 and rev 3 of the product. Then they made me redundant. Sob (sad moment of reflection).... but despite all that I LOVE it. I think this product used properly is the true flexible tool that diagramming users have been wishing for... ...indeed Jim Barrett Smith has taken the product and built in (with a bit of help from Quintic!) a truly terrific rev 5 set of functionality.
